Irish actor Pierce Brosnan would love to follow his character's example in art heist movie THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR, but is too cowardly so contents himself with making his own paintings.

The 51-year-old worked as a commercial artist before he turned to acting, and understand the motives behind great art thefts like this year's (03) robbery of EDVARD MUNCH's painting THE SCREAM.

He says, "I'd steal paintings if I had the guts to do it. I actually started as a commercial artist in London. I still paint, I have a studio at home. I do landscapes, oils and self-portraits.

"Some of these men do it because they have a great love of art, but most of them do it because they just want to make money.

"It's a challenge. It's plotting it, planning it and pulling off the heist. But The Scream was painted on cardboard so I hope they take good care of it."
