The Grammy-nominated rap star - real name Remy Smith - is suspected of shooting a woman in the city's Meatpacking district on Saturday (14Jul07).. Smith, 26, reported to police and was also charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.. Her sports utility vehicle (SUV), which had been involved in a crash and abandoned, was discovered by cops just three blocks from where victim Makeda Barnes-Joseph was gunned down.. She is currently hospitalised but in a stable condition.. Smith's lawyer Scott Leemon refuses to comment on the charges but begs fans to "keep an open mind", adding, "things are not always as they seem"..
