Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman hadn't read a single page of The Hunger Games books before signing up to star in the second film in the movie franchise.
The Oscar winner has been cast as Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in the upcoming Catching Fire, a big screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' second novel in her hit trilogy.
Hoffman reveals he was not familiar with the books when he joined the cast, but he couldn't resist the part as the script was so compelling.
He tells Entertainment Weekly: "It's a great group of actors. It's a great environment. And the character was something I was attracted to. It was just an interesting role."
Hoffman is now rushing to read Collins' books before production begins on the blockbuster in autumn (12).
He adds, "It's good. I've read the script, which is true to the book, (so) I kinda ruined it for myself. But I'm reading it anyway, because I really want to find out everything I need to know about this guy."
Jennifer Lawrence will reprise her lead role as Katniss in the post-apocalyptic sequel, which will also star actors Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.
