Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer

After the release of The Force Awakens at the end of 2015, Disney and Lucas films didn't mess around delivering the general public its first announcement/teaser for The Last Jedi back at the start of 2016. Now, well over a year later, we finally get to see some proper footage from the upcoming movie.

Many of the key cast from Star Wars: The Force Awakens will feature in The Last Jedi including Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren who famously slaughtered his much-loved father in a face to face battle that made for one of the most pivotal scenes in the history of Star Wars.

As ever with new Star Wars releases, the scrip and the story outline is one of Hollywood's most closely guarded secrets and few official details have been released to the public. We do know that the story will pick up where The Force Awakens ended with Rey going off into a mountainous setting to hunt down Luke Skywalker in a bid to train with him and learn his knowledge.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Review

Essential

Appealing both to a new generation of viewers and fans of the series since the beginning, this 30-years-later sequel to 1983's Return of the Jedi is a thrilling adventure. Filmmaker J.J. Abrams has managed to capture the tone of the original trilogy while telling a story about young, vibrant new characters whose connection to the overall saga deepens intriguingly as events unfurl.

Over the past three decades, the Empire has regrouped, forming the First Order to crush the Old Republic for good. And the plucky Rebellion hasn't offered much resistance since leader Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) disappeared. The Empire's top henchman Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is searching for him just as diligently as the rebel leader General Leia (Carrie Fisher). But the real action is happening out of their grasp, as disaffected storm trooper Finn (John Boyega) teams up with rebel pilot Poe (Oscar Isaac) and then feisty scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley) and expressive droid BB-8. Along the way, Han Solo and Chewbacca (Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew) find themselves back in the fray. And everyone is startled when there's a strong stirring in the force.

Abrams beautifully recreates the scruffy, clanky mechanical atmosphere of the original trilogy, infusing scenes with witty banter and John William's soaring score to throw us right back into that familiar galaxy. This includes the saga's main themes: the temptation of power, how true heroism is often accidental, and the tension between parents and children. Combine this with a plot that propels itself with a series of unexpected adventures and battles, all centred on the characters, and the film taps strongly into the teen in all of us.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens TV Spot Trailer

After the victory of the Rebel Alliance over the Galactic Empire and subsequent demolition of The Death Star, you'd imaging life in a certain galaxy would be a little more subdued, but as we soon learn, life for Princess Leia, Luke and Hans wasn't exactly easy following their small yet essential victory.

30 years on and to most citizens - humanoid and alien - the stories of evil Lord Darth Vader and the Jedi Masters are just a legend, a story they tell their children that starts with the well-known overture: 'A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away'. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh film in the Star Wars series and is an additional story to the original Star Wars outline.

The film follows a set of new characters as they join the battle and fight the evil forces once again threatening to destroy their galaxy. The Force Awakens was directed by Jj Abrams and sees a number of cast favourites return to the story including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

It's finally here! The teaser trailer you've all been waiting for: 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', and while it's not really giving anything away, it looks pretty intense. Vehicles have updated, the stormtroopers are looking shinier and R2D2 appears to have evolved.

Since George Lucas announced his retirement from the franchise, there's been all sorts of speculation about what differences could be expected from an updated sequel: though it's difficult to tell from the less than one and a half minute trailer. Everyone seems to be in a rush (especially, in a comical fashion, R2D2) and there's some brand new faces, who all look a little nervous as a voiceover booms out: 'There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side and the light.'

Millennium Falcon Photos From 'Star Wars 7' Set Leak: Could It Be?

Jj Abrams Carrie Fisher Lupita Nyong'o Harrison Ford Mark Hamill Gwendoline Christie Peter Mayhew Domhnall Gleeson Adam Driver

We have been given our first look at the brand new Millennium Falcon that is being built for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, thanks to an alleged photo leak TMZ has published. The new shots, which are purported to feature full-size space vehicles from the sci-fi franchise, have strongly hinted that Han Solo's iconic spaceship and others will be included in Jj Abrams upcoming reboot.

If the photos are real, they are evidence that Abrams' team has decided to create full-size versions of the vehicles that George Lucas' movies only made in miniature model sizes. It will also indicate that Episode VII will use minimal CGI effects in favour of high spec props and spacecraft models. Eagle-eyed observers also spotted what looks like an X-Wing starfighter amongst the other unknown constructions.

The photos were evidently taken in some kind of cavernous hangar which fans are speculating could be England's Pinewood Studios, where much of the movie's filming will take place. Vast sets are shown being built out of wood and covered with ladders and scaffolding as Abrams' vision slowly takes form.

J.J. Abrams is directly Star Wars Episode VII.

Abrams sent a touching note to every member of the cast and crew stating what “an honour” it was to work with them and thanking them for all the “work past and future.” Abrams, who is directing the upcoming instalment in Star Wars, wished the actors well and asked they “take good care” of themselves and “each other”. The picture was obtained by moviefone and appears to have been written on a discarded piece of script paper. He also reminded them of the magnitude of the task they are taking on. Towards the end of his note he wrote “the world awaits this film,” encouraging his cast and crew with “let’s give ‘em something great!”

Harry Knowles, the reliable and respected movie man at Ain't It Cool News, is quoting a source as saying Jj Abrams' new Star Wars movie is titled The Ancient Fear. Harry says his insider told him back in January that the movie would shoot in Dubai - which was accurate - and that when he took the title speculation to JJ himself, he didn't respond. Suspicious.

Knowles says that after following up the speculation with other sources, a guy close to the production claimed that the "working title" for the movie was The Ancient Fear. He also stated, "it refers to Max Von Sydow's villain who makes Pazuzu look like a pussy!"

Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are all currently in London, prompting speculation over whether the original Star Wars trio will be reuniting to film Jj Abrams' upcoming Star Wars Episode VII. Abrams' new instalment to George Lucas' sci-fi films is about to begin shooting just outside of the English capitol at the legendary Pinewood Studios nearby.

Not that any of the three have been particularly trying to disguise themselves, but there has been no grand fanfare upon the actors' touch-down in the UK. Since the franchise reboot was announced they have been rumoured to be involved, which is why their recent sightings seems to much of a coincidence.

Why Chewbacca HAS To Return For 'Star Wars Episode VII'

Peter Mayhew Mark Hamill Carrie Fisher Harrison Ford

The best Star Wars Episode VII news we’ve heard so far is that Peter Mayhew will (supposedly) be getting his Wookiee on once more to reprise his role as Chewbacca. It seems only fitting that if Han Solo, Leia, Luke, C-3P0 and R2-D2 will all (allegedly) be teaming up once again in a galaxy far, far away that Chewie should be there with them! Here’s our list of reasons why Star Wars Episode VII just wouldn’t be complete without everyone’s favourite Wookiee.

Mayhew played the Wookiee and Han Solo's co-pilot in the original trilogy, beginning with Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope in 1977.

Rumors began surfacing of Mayhew's reprisal after he cancelled an upcoming appearance at Texas convention Comicpalooza "due to filming" and sources have since confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter that the actor is busy working on Episode VII with J.J. Abrams.

Star Wars Episode VII To Feature Original Chewbacca, Peter Mayhew

Intent on following one of the most ill-conceived and disassembled filming structures known to Hollywood, Star Wars Episode VII has started shooting while the full extent of the cast is yet to be finalised. But there is one exciting piece of news surrounding the upcoming reboot: Peter Mayhew will reprise his role as the iconic Chewbacca.

Star Wars

A tweet from Comicpalooza Con first set tongues-a-wagging. “We regret to announce that Peter Mayhew is canceling his appearance at Comicpalooza this year due to filming,” it read. Now, though, the news has been confirmed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Peter Mayhew Will Reprise 'Chewbacca' Role In 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

Peter Mayhew

British actor Peter Mayhew rose to fame after playing one of the most recognisable characters in cinematic history, 'Chewbacca.'

The now 69 year-old portrayed the Wookiee in the original 'Star Wars' trilogy, opposite Harrison Ford as 'Han Solo's' trusted sidekick.

And now Mayhew will once again play the iconic character in J.J. Abrams' forthcoming 'Star Wars: Episode VII', according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Wanted: One Chewbacca - Has JJ Abrams' Gone Wookiee Hunting For 'Star Wars VII'?

Peter Mayhew Jj Abrams Harrison Ford George Lucas

Jj Abrams' new Star Wars movie, Episode VII, may include a wookiee if the rumours currently circulating the internet are true. The news that Abrams might be on the hunt for a new Chewbacca was sparked when casting website Spotlight posted that a man of gargantuan height was being sought by J. J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, Bryan Burk and Tommy Harper who are all known to be working on the new Star Wars chapter.

Peter Mayhew
Peter Mayhew Was The First To Sport The Iconic Furry, Belted Suit.

The casting call reads "7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture. Not too worked out or too 'thick set' especially in the shoulders. Broad facial features would be a bonus," as reported by Den of Geek. The features listed seem to be rather similar to those of Peter Mayhew, the 69 year-old English actor, who played Chewie in four Star Wars films so has automatically sparked speculation regarding who the new actor will be.

Peter Mayhew's TSA Debacle: Light Sabers Don't Work Off-Screen

Peter Mayhew

In what is probably the first time a light saber has caused real-life trouble, Peter Mayhew got his cane, modeled on the fictional weapon, confiscated by TSA agents in Denver. The 7ft 2in actor, who plays Chewbacca in the Star Wars franchise, has problems walking and uses the cane as a walking aid. He tried to take it onboard the plane, coming home from the Denver Comic-Con, according to the Daily Mail.

Unfortunately, the TSA agents in question seemed to be unfamiliar both with Mayhew and with the light saber as a fictional weapon. They decided that it could somehow be used to harm passengers on the plane. Since canes and walking aids are typically allowed on board, we can only assume that the TSA agents expected the light saber had some actual futuristic properties, which would make it dangerous. Mayhew himself took the whole incident with a grain of salt and later tweeted: "Giant man need giant cane... small cane snap like toothpick... besides.. my light saber cane is just cool… I would miss it…"

After arriving in Dallas, he used the social network again, this time to praise American Airlines for their quick response. He explained that the mixup was on the part of the TSA and had nothing to do with his airline of choice. Luckily, all has been resolved now. Presumably, the TSA agents have learned a valuable lesson – it’s not wise to upset a Wookie.
