Peter Fonda is desperate to say farewell to his dying Easy Rider co-star Dennis Hopper - but the cancer-stricken actor is too tired to speak.
Hopper is suffering from terminal prostate cancer and reportedly has just weeks to live.
Fonda, who formed the iconic pairing of Billy and Captain America with Hopper in the classic '60s road movie, has contacted his old pal several times - but is frustrated at their lack of conversation.
Fonda, who celebrates his 70th birthday on Tuesday (23Feb10), tells the Toronto Star, "Unfortunately, Dennis is dying. It's just terrible.
"I've called him now literally more than a dozen times, and I can't talk to him because he's too tired. He's wrecked. He's fighting this cancer that he has been fighting for 10 years and I feel sorry for him... I hope he gets another year, so he gets enough strength so I can go in to him and shake his hand and kiss him on the head and say, 'It's been a hell of a ride, Dennis. It's been a hell of a ride.'"
