Twilight star Peter Facinelli is leading the race to bring former fugitive James 'Whitey' Bulger's lifestory to the big screen after spending the last nine months securing funding for the film.
The crime boss, who spent almost two decades on the Fbi’s Most Wanted Fugitives list, was captured in Santa Monica, California last week (ends24Jun11) and charged with racketeering, murder and narcotics distribution.
His gritty story is perfect for the big screen and savvy Facinelli is leading the charge to make the movie after securing the rights to adapt Edward MacKenzie and Phyllis Karas’ book Street Soldier: My Life as an Enforcer For Whitey Bulger and the Boston Irish Mob last year (10).
Facinelli will produce the project.
Bulger was reportedly the inspiration for Jack Nicholson's ruthless crime boss in The Departed.
