Australian pop star Peter Andre teamed up with London Mayor Boris Johnson on Tuesday (14Jun11) to launch a new literary scheme.
Johnson is pioneering the Team London initiative, to improve the lives of residents in the city, and the new reading project is designed to help children between the ages of three and five develop their literacy skills.
Andre joined Johnson to launch the National Literacy Trust scheme at Botwell Green Library in west London, and the singer admitted he is keen to make sure his own children are growing up around books.
He says, "As a child I adored books and listening to the fantastic stories my parents would tell me and my brother. Now I'm a parent myself, I've shared that passion for stories with my children. I love talking to them about their day and reading them bed time stories. Reading doesn't need to be a chore, and the earlier we get our kids to embrace it, the better."
