Performance, Red Brick Heart Album Review

These Mancunians sure know how to make a great record. Since getting together seven years ago, this band has survived various different labels, an awkward inter-band romance and the frontman Joe Stretch has even become an internationally-published novelist. Now, this electro-indie band is back with a vengeance, touring across the UK in October. The result is a fun synthetic pop record with heavy bass and even heavier guitars.

Anger Told Cammell 'Hollywood Will Kill You'

Donald Cammell Performance Mick Jagger Wild Side

Veteran film-maker KENNETH ANGER warned late director Donald Cammell of the risks of living in Los Angeles, predicting Hollywood would "kill" him.
Cammell struggled to get films made after his 1970 hit Performance, which starred SIR Mick Jagger, and was driven to suicide in 1996 after his film Wild Side was cut by its producer.
Anger, 79, says, "I told him to get out of Hollywood, but instead he stayed in his house up in the hills and shot himself in the head.
"I told him, I said, 'Hollywood will kill you. Get the f**k out of here, get back to London, which is a civilised place.' It was his own demons that made him do it, but it was a tragic loss."

Byrne Holds Breathe For Jekyll And Hyde Role

Gabriel Byrne Nicolas Roeg Performance

Gabriel Byrne's dream to bring an adaptation of DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE to the big screen is in financial crisis - 11 years after the Irish actor first pitched the project to director Nicolas Roeg.

Byrne was so taken with Japanese author SHUSAKO ENDO's SCANDAL - a reworking of Stevenson's classic novel - he wrote a letter to the Performance director suggesting he make it into a movie.

In a bizarre coincidence, Roeg finally took on the project and cast Byrne in the lead role, even though he didn't receive his letter.
