Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is taking aim at the leaders of gay rights organisation The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, after they criticised the way he handled his weekend (21Jun09) clash with Black Eyed Peas star WILL.I.AM.
Executives were furious with a gay slur Hilton, a former GLAAD employee, used against the hitmaker during their confrontation outside the MuchMusic Awards in Canada.
They demanded an apology from the openly gay blogger, but Hilton has refused and, instead, is firing back at his former bosses.
In a statement released on Tuesday (23Jun09), Hilton, real name Mario Lavandeira, writes, "I am saddened GLAAD chose to victimise me further by criticising me for how I non-violently dealt with a very scary situation that, unfortunately, turned violent.
"While I doubt I will get an apology from GLAAD, nor do I expect one, I would just hope people know how difficult it is to intellectualise a situation and think rationally when a thug disguised as a musician is screaming at your face (sic) and intimidating you. I am just very fortunate and grateful that nothing more serious happened to me."
Hilton originally claimed will.i.am assaulted him during their clash. The Black Eyed Peas' manager has since been charged with assault.
As WENN went to press, Hilton was threatening to sue those involved in the Canadian confrontation on Sunday night.
