The Mischief Of Cloud 6
Pepe Deluxe's 'The Mischief Of Cloud 6' released 28th May has been remixed by Various Productions.
Less is more right? Wrong. In the case of Pepe Deluxé at least, more is most certainly more. 'The Mischief Of Cloud 6', is the second single from the forthcoming album 'Spare Time Machine' and Pepe Deluxe have added a bit more of everything into the pot and all for the better. More sweet hip-hop beats, more psychedelic guitar crescendos, more of the same offbeat lyrics, retro vocals and more influences from around the world than you can shake a pocket atlas at. In contrast it also has less too. Less samples. Or to be exact, none.
Pepe Deluxé are two: James Spectrum (AKA Jari Salo) and JA-Jazz (AKA Tomi Paajaanen). These Finnish scholars of sonics formed in the Mid- '90s. This latest single is a testament to their skills in the studio providing us with the same expertly produced complex compositions as the previous albums. Spectrum and JA-Jazz describe their current state as "more like a small scale art movement than a traditional band", that hasn't stopped them from planning some live dates over the next year. After a successful debut in Helsinki in December the band look set to try their hand at the live side of things in spring in the UK.
'The Mischief Of Cloud 6' doesn't thwart their previous handiwork and perfectly prepares you for the third album which is quality body of work, is as funky as the last two but has a refreshing change of tone. 'The Mischief of Cloud 6' is out on the 28th May 2007.
