Penelope Cruz was able to overcome her loneliness when she first arrived in Los Angeles with the help of close friend Salma Hayek.

The Spanish beauty, 30, initially felt isolated when she first moved to America to appear in movies including THE HI-LO COUNTRY and ALL THE PRETTY HORSES, so she was grateful to have a small group of established LA pals to help her adapt to the fast-paced Hollywood way of life.

Cruz says, "It was a shock at first and I felt pretty lonely.

"But Salma and a small group of friends were there. Just three or four, which is actually a lot.

"I was also lucky that from the moment I got there I got work and didn't really stop."
