Pee Wee Herman's new show officially opens on Broadway tonight (November 11th 2010) following several weeks of previews at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York City. The production, which sees the reprisal of Paul Reubens' much-loved character, has also announced an extension, meaning it now run till January 2nd 2011.
'The Pee Wee Herman Show', is described as being suitable for both children and adults, and features three characters alongside 'Pee Wee'. JOHN MOODY plays 'Mailman Mike', JOHN PARAGON plays 'Jambi the Genie', and LYNNE MARIE STEWART stars as 'Miss Yvonne'. All three actors featured in the original production of the show at the Groundlings Theatre in 1981, and both Moody and Paragon starred in the long-running CBS television series. The cast also includes Jesse Garcia, JOHN MEYERS, and DREW POWELL. The show lasts 90-minutes and is based on the original stage version, however, Reubens has also developed new elements for updated version.
The show has so far gained positive reviews for the previews, with The Hollywood Reporter writing, "Don't expect a lump in the throat, but wait for a deliciously cheesy final visual gimmick, capping an evening of stunning special effects. The show is a phantasmagorical visual treat".
