Pee-Wee Herman, the multi-award winning comedy creation of actor Paul Reubens, had landed himself a television special following the success of the current Broadway show, reports the New York Daily News. HBO have confirmed that they will air a 'The Pee-Wee Herman Special' in January 2011. The show will be recorded at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre once the stage show finishes its current run on January 2nd 2011.
The network first introduced the character back in 1981 and Reubens went on to have huge hits with the Tim Burton directed movie 'Pee-Wee's Big Adventure' as well as the EMMY AWARD winning Saturday morning television series 'Pee-Wee's Playhouse'. The new special will reunite all of the original characters, including 'Mailman Mike', 'Cowboy Curtis', 'Miss Yvonne', 'Pterri the Pterodactyl', 'Jambi the Genie' and 'Chairry'. HBO's senior vice-president of original programming NANCY GELLER said in a statement, "It's thrilling to have Paul back on the network, and it will be a blast to return to Pee-wee's Playhouse".
The 'Pee-Wee Herman Show' opened on November 11th 2010 on Broadway to glowing reviews and Reubens has enjoyed somewhat of a comeback lately, making appearances on '30 Rock', 'Family Guy' and in the movie 'Life During Wartime'.
