Rock veteran Paul Weller dismisses the romantic stereotype that songwriters pen their best work while under the influence of drink and/or drugs, because being intoxicated never made any difference to him.

The WILD WOOD star puts his three decades-long songwriting streak down to luck instead.

He says, "I've written some great songs when I've been off my b**locks. I've also written a lot of crap in that state.

"There's no pattern to it, really. Maybe a lot of it is down to luck. If so, I've been lucky for a long time now."
