Veteran rocker Paul Weller refuses to be branded middle class simply because he has money and a large house.

The former The Jam and Style Council frontman, who will receive this year's (06) Brit Award for Lifetime Achievement, is determined not to fall into the bourgeois middle class category, after having worked hard since he was a teenager.

He says, "Years and years ago, when I was still married, we had some friends over and they said, 'Isn't it funny how we've all ended up middle class?'

"And I said, 'Speak for your f**king selves, because I'm not.'

"I might have a nice house but just because I've got money, doesn't mean I'm middle class.

"I'm not having it."
