"I wouldn't trade places with anyone.because I'd like to get to know you again," Simon and Brickell sing together, sending out a clear message after their joint arrest for disorderly conduct. A police report has now shown that it was Simon, 72, who made the 911 call from the couple's cottage in New Canaan, Connecticut on Saturday night, according to The Guardian.

The report states that Brickell confronted her husband and he did something to "break her heart." He allegedly shoved her, before she slapped him, and he rang emergency services. Simon hung up the phone without saying anything and police visited the property as a precaution.

When police arrived, Simon was found to have suffered a "superficial cut" to his ear and Brickell, who smelled of alcohol, had a bruise on her wrist and reportedly asked an officer to feel a lump on her head. The 48-year-old singer-songwriter didn't allow police to photograph her injuries and would not say more about the confrontation.

Appearing in court alongside his wife on Monday, the 12 time Grammy winner denied that the incident was anything more than an "atypical" argument. He said "Both of us are fine together. We had an argument and it's fairly atypical of us; neither of us has any fear or any reason to feel threatened and I don't feel I need to be protected."

Brickell added: "He's no threat to me at all."

Simon and Brickell are due back in court on the 16th May.
