Actor Paul Guilfoyle is one of the last original stars of 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,' but he is now about to move on.

The 64 year-old played Captain Jim Brass in all 14 seasons of the popular crime drama, but he will not be returning for its 15th, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

However, it wasn't his choice, the report also states that producers made the decision to end his lengthy storyline run on the show, and when finding out this information, Guilfoyle gave an emotional farewell speech on the last day of filming.

"CSI" executive producers Carol Mendelsohn and Don McGill said, "Paul made Captain Brass a standout character. He is not just an original cast member, he is an original."

"In a show about forensics, fans always looked forward to the handcuffs coming out, and Captain Brass putting his spin on the crime of the week, just as Paul Guilfoyle put his indelible stamp on the character and the show," they added. "He will be missed."

Paul holds the record with fellow co-star George Eads for appearing in most 'CSI' episodes, which stands at 312.

His final episode will be aired on May 7th and will be the finale of season 14. CBS recently renewed the forensic drama for its 15th season.

This departure comes only days after another major character left CBS program. Josh Charles, who starred in 'The Good Wife', shocked fans on Sunday's (March 23rd) episode after he was killed off during a courtroom scene.

The only difference is, Charles wanted to leave, with CBS ending Guilfoyle's storyline after 14 years of service, it can be speculated that he will be very upset with the news.
