Actress and writer Parker Posey has been announced as the host for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival Awards Ceremony, set to take place on January 28, 2012 in Utah. The Sundance Institute has also announced the 22 members awarding prizes at this year's event - the largest independent cinema festival in the United States, reports Variety Magazine.
Named 'The Queen of the Indies' by Time magazine, Park Posey has appeared in dozens of films screened at Sundance over the years, including Party Girl (1995), House of Yes (1997) and Broken English (2007). She also appears in the movie 'Price Check', set to premiere at this year's festival. Her first major role in a feature film came in the 1993 cult classic Dazed and Confused, which also featured a young Ben Affleck, Matthew Mcconaughey and Jason London. Though best known for her independent work, Posey will also be familiar to mainstream audiences for her roles in You've Got Mail (1998), the horror flick Scream 3 (2000), Laws of Attraction (2004) and Superman Returns, in which she played Lex Luthor's sidekick Kitty Kowalski. A major event on the movie industry's calendar, the Sundance festival is known for throwing the spotlight on independent films - some of which go onto achieve mainstream success. In recent years, the documentary 'Senna', Oscar winner 'Precious' and 'The Squid and the Whale' have all won big at Sundance.
The jury who will decide upon prizes in this year's dramatic categories include 'Fast and the Furious' director Justin Lin, the Hurt Locker actor Anthony Mackie and American film score composer Cliff Martinez.
