Former child star TATUM O'NEAL finds nothing wrong with Dakota Fanning appearing in a rape scene because the 12-year-old actress is just playing a part.
O'Neal was eight-years-old when she appeared in the film Paper Moon with her father RYAN O'NEAL and was 10-years-old when she won an Oscar for her performance.
In the film HOUNDDOG, which is currently screening at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, Fanning plays a girl who endures a graphically suggested rape scene.
O'Neal explains, "I think it's her parent's decision. I think she is a real actress, she really is an actress.
"I think she's probably very smart and she probably looked and the script and said that she felt it was OK for her to do as an actress. I think it's OK."
The star admits it would be a different story if her 15-year-old daughter wanted to appear in the film adding, "Would I let my daughter? No. But I'm her mother. Dakota's mother thinks it's OK."
RYAN O'NEAL began "hating" his daughter TATUM O'NEAL immediately after she became the youngest person to ever win a competitive Academy Award, according to the former child star.
Tatum was only 10 years old when she won the Best Supporting Actress for her role in 1973's Paper Moon, in which she starred alongside her father.
And Tatum claims her father has resented her success ever since.
She says, "Things with my dad were pretty good until I won an Academy Award.
"He didn't even come with me that night - my grandparents took me. He was really loving me until I got more attention than he did.
"Then he hated me. Literally hated me. Forever."
Former tennis champ John McEnroe wants the world to know he has matured since his battling days with ex-wife Tatum O'neal. MCEnroe was ordered to attend anger management two years ago (04) during an explosive custody battle over his three children with O'Neal. The tennis commentator now shares custody of his children with his ex-wife, who was the youngest person to ever win a competitive Oscar for her performance in Paper Moon. MCEnroe says he hopes he matured in the years following their divorce and can understand where the anger was coming from. He says, "I have been to psychiatrists and psychologists and anger management this, that and the other thing but I don't know if I've found them tremendously successful. "Hopefully I have matured a bit and if these people have been even a tiny bit of help, it has been worth it. My desire and passion fuelled my success, but then if you take it too far it becomes a negative."
Former tennis ace John McEnroe has slammed his ex-wife Tatum O'neal's accusations he physically abused her, insisting he only "tweaked her nose". The sportsman, 47, and Paper Moon actress, 42, divorced 1994 after eight years of marriage, with MCEnroe winning custody of the couple's children. In O'Neal's autobiography A PAPER LIFE, the Oscar-winning star claimed he twisted her arm behind her back and tweaked her nose. MCEnroe says, "Well, it's true I tweaked her nose, but I do that to all my kids. It grabs someone's attention, but it hurts. "There are other times when I defended myself so I didn't get hit. "I never hit her. She hit me - but if you hold someone so they don't hit you, that can be regarded as pinning them down. If someone is going to hit you in the face, you're not going to let them to that. I'm not saying I didn't deserve it."
Tatum O'neal hates to recall her childhood because she was the most miserable little girl.
While the public saw her as a young OSCAR-winner with money, talent, fame and celebrities for parents - Ryan O'Neal and JOANNA COOK MOORE, the Paper Moon star was a hellraiser in desperate need of love, attention and supervision.
O'Neal, who has just detailed her terrible upbringing in new book A PAPER LIFE, admits no one saw the abuse she and her brother GRIFFIN had to endure as their young lives spiralled out of control.
