Viewers of ‘The Voice’ were left astounded last night (February 13th) when one contestant shared his incredible weight loss story. Rick Snowdon, 29, appeared on the BBC singing competition after shedding over 13 stone, by beating his sugar addiction and focusing on music.

Sharing his story before his blind audition Rick said: “Growing up I was always overweight, I slowly got bigger and bigger and bigger. There was a lot of shame about it. I didn't really want to be around people. I locked myself in the house for the best part of four and a half years.”

"I developed a love of music - I trained myself to play the guitar. The only thing better than eating food for me is performing, but nobody wants to see a 26 stone rock star. Loosing 13 stone has completely changed my life.”

But it wasn’t just Rick’s weight loss that was impressive. During his audition he delivered a rendition of ‘I Put A Spell On You’, which had judges Paloma Faith, Boy George and Ricky Wilson turning in their chairs.

"What a great performance and what a great voice," Boy George said. Paloma Faith added ”I would absolutely love to sing with you,” before becoming Rick’s mentor for the series.

On twitter viewers couldn't get over Rick’s amazing weight loss. ‘Totally crushing on Rick Snowdon on The Voice. What an awesome transformation and voice. Fair play to him. He's stunning #TheVoiceUK,’ wrote one viewer. Another added, ‘Jesus that guy went from looking like Rik Waller to Brad Pitt! #TheVoiceUK’.

Speaking to local newspaper The Hartlepool Mail last year, Rick described how discovering music changed his life, saying: “Without music, I’d have eaten myself to death. I just surrounded myself with it, and it has saved me. It is something I do completely, with all I have, and it is the only thing that has ever compared to chocolate.”

“I was telling myself that I wasn’t worth anything, and I was a waste of time. Then I got involved in music, picked up a guitar, started playing, and decided I wanted to be in a band and be a rock star. I have just surrounded myself with music. It was a solution, a way to save myself, and something to aspire to.”
