Retro cool is definitely the name of the game and it doesn’t get much cooler than Tony Christie singing Avenues and Alleyways, the haunting anthem of the 1972
Gerry Anderson cult TV series The Protectors, which starred Robert Vaughn,Nyree Dawn Porter and Tony Anholt. The anthemic track, which was also featured in the film
Love, Honour and Obey, is now set for a major revival when it is released as a single by UM:TV on 25 th July 2005. The Avenues and Alleyways single which will include the original
version, along with a Love to Infinity remix will also be released as a DVD single featuring a brand new promo starring Tony Christie with Nick Moran and the Love, Honour and Obey crew.
Avenues and Alleyways is also featured on Tony’s Platinum plus album Tony Christie – The Definitive Collection, which also includes hisrecent smash hit (Is This The Way To) Amarillowhich
topped the charts for 7 weeks.
Christie , who enjoys a star-studded fan base, shot a promo for the new single Avenues and Alleyways at a studio in West London. Directed by Ben Taylor of
Alchemy, the promo opens with a ‘James Bond’ style sequence and features a cast list that reads like a ‘who’s who’ of the British film industry - Nick Moran (Lock Stock & Two
Smoking Barrels), and the Love, Honour and Obey team of Will Scully, Ray Burdis, Mark Burdis, John Beckett and John Brooks,
all of whom are huge fans of the legendary singer and were keen to be involved.
Johnny Barren of the Café DeParis’Kitsch, Lounge, Riot event also made a guest appearance in the promo – Christie recently returned
the compliment by performing a set at the late night lounge music club. A pastiche piece in the style of the original ‘Protectors’ television series, the promo team managed to source a classic Tangerine Jensen
Interceptor Series III for the filming. Spotted in a West London street the production crew posted a note on the vehicle regarding the promo shoot. A huge fan of Tony’s, television producer Joe Harding was only too glad for his treasured
Jensen to make a cameo appearance!
Christie will be playing live at Festivals throughout the summer including the V Festival and will embark on a nationwide concert tour in November.
