The Wombats - Let's Dance To Joy Division
Let's Dance To Joy Division
The Wombats will release their new single Let's Dance To Joy Division on 15 October through 14th Floor Records. It will be released on CD and two limited edition coloured vinyls, and will include the new b-side 'Derail and Crash' as well as a special live version of 'Let's Dance To Joy Division' recorded live at Fuji Rocks and a frenetic remix by To My Boy. The release of their as-yet-untitled debut album will follow on 29 October.
The Wombats rollercoaster, set in motion two years ago in Liverpool when local boys Matthew Murphy (vocals, guitar, keyboard) and Dan Haggis (drums, vocals) met bassist/vocalist Tord Øverland Knudsen at LIPA, shows no sign of slowing down. The band have been selected by NME as main support to The Enemy on their Rock'n'Roll Riot Tour throughout October, before which they will tour the UK as joint headliners with The Holloways in September. Miraculously they've still found time this summer to play Fuji Rocks in Japan and some tastemaker club shows in the US, as well as UK festivals including Glastonbury, V, Get Loaded In The Park, Bestival and Oxegen.
Their carbon emissions have been matched only by an exceptional level of support from media and an ever-growing fanbase. Three singles on indie label KIDS (Lost In The Post, Moving To New York and Backfire At The Disco) all sold out their limited releases in days, sparking a bidding war which culminated in their signing to 14th Floor. In June 2007 'Kill The Director', their first single for the label and their first commercially available release, charted inside the Top 40.
