Ain't Losing Any Sleep
The assertively stammering vocals of Craig Wellington are thrown around by the climbing clatter of shrill percussion and winding guitars let out in opener 'Ain't Losing Any Sleep', to attain a gnarly feel thrusting proudly between the vibes of contemporaries Hard-Fi and Boy Kill Boy, introducing the style of this Shrewsbury born and Leeds formed foursome. Disgruntled subject matter coupled with provocative delivery, again proves to be a reliable combination in this modern age and is now enshrined as music's equivalent of the 4-4-2 formation, but it works.
A five minute, jam inspired art rock/blues haunt 'Who Called The Dandy?', shows this outfit's ability to draw out their sound and layer musical consistency to justify their success in Zane Lowe's Fresh Meat Competition a while back. The arty commencement to this number creates a backdrop for the carefully pedestrian vocals to stride along to, before the arty/spacey undercurrent gets stronger, creating an impression consistent with that of Four Tet. The Sunshine Underground has provided a ray of their potential craft and broadness that may startle the less adventurous listener.
