The Mitchell Brothers are the first signings to Mike Skinner’s The Beats label. Tony and Teddy Mitchell are both 24 and claim Manor Park, Ilford and Stockwell as their ends. Having recently caused a bit of a stir with the nice people at Harvey Nicholls with their single Harvey Nicks (see the news story on vogue.com) Teddy & Tony aren’t taking a breath before they release their inner city classic-in-waiting Excuse My Brother. The combination of their witty banter, on point narrative with killer chorus and Mike Skinner’s winning production puts them in pole position for a sure-fire hit.

They inked their deal with The Beats after Teddy Mitchell performed a reverse pickpocket manoeuvre in the queue at Barclays Bank in Brixton and slipped a demo CD into Skinner’s pocket. They write sharp, funny raps about life as a young black male in today’s urban Britain. Tunes about clothes, girls, fights, raves, motorbikes and getting pulled over by the law. Two archetypal London geezers in a sharp look of Lacoste sportswear mixed with upscale Aquascutum, Tony and Teddy look more like old skool terrace casuals of the 80s than your typical hoodrats of the grime scene.

After the surprise chart success of their two underground singles, Tony and Teddy have been busy supporting Nelly on his UK tour. Having almost blown The Streets off stage on their recent tour the boys are feeling suitably confident about their performance.

Their debut LP A Breath of Fresh Attire was written on the back of the Streets tour bus during their recent tour as well as at The Beats headquarters (erm, a shed somewhere in west London) and is scheduled for release on August 22nd.

19 August – London, Brixton Academy (support The Streets)
