Bom Bom Bom
The Living Things release their eagerly awaited single 'Bom Bom Bom' on February 27th through Red Ink (a division of SonyBMG). It's a politically bleak, yet infectiously catchy dancefloor-boogie-classic-in-waiting and will be available on: 7" vinyl, 2 Track CD and Maxi CD.
The circus-themed video accompanying the single was directed by Floria Sigismondi who has directed clips for Sigur Rós, the White Stripes, Björk, David Bowie, and the Cure, among others. Performers from Toronto's Circus Orange appeared as guests in the video, filmed at the city's Pharmacy Studios. The production also numbered a dancing elephant (representing the Republican Party), a camel, a zebra and a trick pony from the Bowmanville Zoo, Canada's oldest private zoo. In keeping with Living Things' thematic vernacular, a lion was on hand to represent the U.S. government.
This is the first track to be taken from their debut album 'Ahead Of The Lions' released two weeks after the single on March 13th. The album, recorded with famed producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Pixies) is a hard-hitting, political power-force; relentless in delivering its message, and sharp on its observations with low, scuzzy beats reminiscent of early Ramones, and The Rolling Stones. Drawing on political frustrations, personal struggles and a wealth of experiences, such as Lillian being shot at twice after a show in Dallas, Texas, the brothers have produced a raw, up front, antagonistic record reflecting the mood of post 9/11 Bush-era America. Surviving major label incompetence which saw, (after moving release dates, and canceling tours last minute) the band and label part ways; the album is finally being brought to light with the help of Q Prime Management (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Muse), the US label Jive Records and Red Ink in the UK.
