Hammersmith Palais, West London: BRIT Award organisers the BPI tonight announced the nominations for The BRIT Awards 2007 with MasterCard and revealed an outstanding line-up of acts who will perform live onstage at Earls Court 1 on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - Valentines Day.

The show is set to be an unforgettable celebration of a year in which seven of the Top 10 bestselling albums in the UK were by British artists.

The BRIT Awards 2007 with MasterCard will be broadcast live on ITV1 and hosted by Russell Brand with backstage presenter Fearne Cotton. The 2007 show will be the first BRIT Awards to be broadcast live in nearly 20 years.

BPI Chairman Peter Jamieson said, "Music is one of the things that the British do well. But even by our standards 2006 was a great year. The BRIT Awards with MasterCard 2007 will celebrate Britain's love of music with a fantastic mix of UK and international artists."

BRIT Award performers confirmed

The acts announced today performing live at The BRIT Awards with MasterCard are:

Snow Patrol The melodic rock act expanded on their breakthrough year of 2004 with the release of 'Eyes Open,' and saw it sell 1.5 million copies to become the UK's bestselling album of 2006.

The Scissor Sisters The flamboyant New York group proved their debut success was no one-off, as second album 'Ta-Dah' sold 1.1 million copies and produced one of the year's most memorable hits, 'I Don't Feel Like Dancin''.

The Killers Like Snow Patrol and the Scissor Sisters, the mighty Killers are twice-nominated at The BRIT Awards 2007 with MasterCard, and will follow their quadruple-platinum 'Sam's Town' album with a typically passionate live performance at the Valentine's Day show.

Take That After one of the most spectacular comebacks in pop history, Take That produced the anthemic 'Patience' single and million-selling 'Beautiful World' album. They return to the BRITs as conquering heroes. 'Patience' is shortlisted for British Single, a title they won three times in the 1990s.

Corinne Bailey Rae A truly breakthrough singer-songwriter in 2006, nominated both in British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Artist. Her self-titled debut album has sold three million copies worldwide and led to three 2007 Grammy nominations.

Red Hot Chili Peppers One of the great live acts on the world stage, the Chili Peppers take to the BRITs stage following another nomination for International Group, a title they won in 2003.

Amy Winehouse After arriving on the UK music scene with her platinum-selling debut 'Frank' in 2003, the inimitable Ms. Winehouse wowed fans and critics alike with a change in music style for her no 1 follow up 'Back to Black'. Amy is nominated this year for British Female Solo Artist and MasterCard British Album.

Oasis The indestructible Mancunians celebrate their Outstanding Contribution to Music award after a dozen years as one of the UK's greatest live acts and an inspiration to the generation of rock newcomers who've followed.

Said Peter Jamieson, "This is one of the strongest line-ups of performers ever at the BRIT Awards."

Muse and Lily Allen lead nominees list

A grand total of 14 artists have achieved nominations for the 2007 BRIT Awards with MasterCard. They were chosen by The BRIT Awards Voting Academy, comprised of 1,000 representatives from all areas of the music industry - including press and media.

Leading the pack are the grand-scale rock of Muse and the distinctive songcraft of Lily Allen with three nominations apiece, Three of the best singer-songwriters discovered and developed in the UK - Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae and James Morrison - each secure two nominations, as do indie champions the Arctic Monkeys.

BPI Chairman Peter Jamieson said, "The strength of UK talent right now is highlighted by the number of debut albums represented in the nominations. Something very powerful and very exciting is happening right now in British music."

The MasterCard British Album award is as prestigious a prize as ever and will be keenly contested by a quintet of superb albums released during 2006. Winehouse's sophisticated second set 'Back To Black' and Allen's distinctive, original debut 'Alright, Still' go up against Muse's chart-topping 'Black Holes & Revelations', Snow Patrol's quintuple-platinum 'Eyes Open' and the Arctic Monkeys' landmark first album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.'

A host of other UK acts, who made their big breakthrough during 2006, are also rewarded with nominations, including Paolo Nutini, Nerina Pallot, The Fratellis and The Kooks. They're joined by such established British acts as Razorlight, Snow Patrol, Kasabian and Lemar, as well as two frontmen of long-admired groups winning their first BRITs recognition for solo work, Jarvis Cocker and Thom Yorke.

Lily Allen, Corrine Bailey Rae and James Morrison are all up for British Breakthrough Act, the category that, more than any other, always reflects the achievements of emerging UK talent. They're pitted against two of Britain's hottest rock acts, The Kooks and The Fratellis.

Rarely has there been a more powerful nominations list for the coveted British Group honour in the 30-year history of the BRIT Awards. Muse, who recently underlined their credentials by announcing two dates at the new Wembley Stadium this summer, will contest the prestigious title at The BRITs with the Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Razorlight and Snow Patrol.

Another of the class of 2006, Guillemots, win a nomination in the British Live Act category, alongside Muse, Kasabian and two giants of BRIT Awards history, multiple winners Robbie Williams and George Michael.

The International Award categories are also plentifully stocked with exciting talent spanning an extremely broad musical vista. Gnarls Barkley, fresh from having their anthemic, history-making 'Crazy' named as the UK's biggest-selling single of 2006, join Muse and Lily Allen with three nods. Song writing legend Bob Dylan marks another momentous year in his unrivalled history with two new nominations. Three more massive names on the international stage, The Killers, the Scissor Sisters and Justin Timberlake, receive two nods each. The international solo categories also feature huge names from Beyoncé to Beck.
