Star Wars Republic Commando - Xbox Review

Star Wars Republic Commando is a squad-based first-person shooter that lets you explore the elite world of the Star Wars military. Leading a 3-man squad of Republic Commandos, your missions take you deep behind enemy lines on over 14 intense and challenging levels through three different campaigns where you will face more than ten brutal enemies. You'll have more than a dozen deadly weapons at your disposal, but none more lethal than your squad. What makes the squad in Star Wars Republic Commando so unique is the game's innovative ‘One Touch Squad Control' system that allows you to engage your squad with just one button. You can dish out orders to your crew to take up sniper positions or man turrets. The AI of your squad is better than you may expect. While in the heat of battle if you don't give your boys an order they don't just stand around scratching their heads, they get on with kicking the enemies ass and a lot of the time no order is needed but when things get really tough your team is a very powerful weapon.

Republic Commandos are the elite among the Clone Troopers and were created as a fierce, highly-trained specialized combat force to perform

covert operations. Players must take their squad of Republic Commandos on numerous precision missions featuring hostage rescue, infiltration/data retrieval, assassination, assault, sabotage and reconnaissance assignments. They will have access to more than a dozen authentic weapons including the primary Republic Commando firearm, the DC-17m Interchangeable Combat Weapon System and the DC-15s Sidearm Blaster Pistol, as well as enemy weapons such as the Trandoshan Slaver APC Array Blaster and Geonosian Elite Beam Weapon. But the player's greatest weapon will be the squad. The squad instinctively reacts on-the-fly to player's commands and the situation at hand, without extensive and complex squad set-up.

Set in the period between Star Wars : Episode I The Phantom Menace and leading into Star Wars : Episode II Attack of the Clones , Star Wars Republic Commando covers both new and familiar environments, including the hostile surface and subterranean setting of the planet Geonosis, the massive machine-like interiors of a Separatist Core Ship, a disabled and overrun Republic Assault Ship and the lower jungles and tree cities of the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk. Players will engage in challenging combat against such enemies as Super Battle Droids, Droidekas, Geonosian Drones and Warriors and Trandoshan Scavenger Droids and Trandoshan Mercenaries. They will also face the powerful bodyguards of EP III's new villain, General Grievous, the leader of the Separatist armies.

The Graphics in Star Wars: Republic Commando are very good the detail in your squads armour and weapons is great and the environments are pretty decent too. Sound is also well represented. The banter between your squad members is useful and sometimes really funny the sounds of battle are also very good as aliens scream, robots tweet and the noise of weapons ricochets around. There is also a soundtrack playing sometimes with heavy metal and sometime classical and choral stuff. This all adds to the mood and helps immerse you into the battle.

Star Wars Republic Commando features an enhanced version of the acclaimed Unreal engine technology and will be optimized for Xbox Live content. The game will also offer multiplayer capabilities including deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag.

The main downside to the game is that you will probably be through the mission in around 10 hours. Although with the 4 player mode and online capability you will glean more play time from the game. If this kind of action shooter is your bag then Star Wars Republic Commando is going to float your boat it has taken from the best in its genre and from the best of the Star Wars world.
