His Name Is Alive - "Motor City Mixes" Review

News & Reviews
8. His Name Is Alive Motor City Mixes (12" - 4AD)
Better known for his work in the Rock circuit, Warn Defever (aka His Name Is Alive) adjusted the angle 360 degrees with his last album Someday My Blues Will Cover The Earth, and came up with a praiseworthy soul/funk excursion instead.
Here we have three different mixes of three album tracks by three of the Detroit underground. Tony Ollivierra (K7/Planet E) tackles Write My Name In The Groove keeping Lovetta Pippens vocal well and truly at the fore whilst smoothing everything else out into a cool soul groove. Recloose chills with an excellent down tempo house head-nodder and Ectoporph polish things off very nicely indeed Thankyou with a left-of-centre, Leila-esque rehash.
