Newcastle five-piece Maximo Park’s long-awaited debut A Certain Trigger will probably meet your rock expectations, but at the same time it will lead you into an unexpectedly romantic world. Aside from the obvious comparisons with very talented peers The Futureheads - due to both bands playing angular riffs and stylish rock n’ roll drum beats - Paul Smith’s band ( Among the other millions of homonymous people, also the name of a fashion designer) stands out for hiding beautiful love songs under an utterly intellectual appearance.

Just listen to the lyrics of first single ‘Apply Some Pressure’:“You magnify the way I think about myself, before you came I rarely thought about myself” or “I still remember how you movedand I taste your scent upon my lips” (Postcard Of A Painting). A lovely and unhidden northern accent completes the picture. A very interesting piece of art.
