i concur Lucky Jack/Build Around Me Single Review
Following on from i concur's impressive self-released EP and several compilation appearances comes the Leeds based bands debut double single 'Lucky Jack/Build Around Me' on local label Brew Records.
Undoubtedly the stronger of the two, 'Lucky Jack' consists of Tim Hann's charming vocals, pounding drums and a combination of growling/screaming/epic guitar arrangements. It's the kind of explosive effort that has you finding similarities with The National.
Based on a Pennine farmhouse situated in-between the split carriageways of the M62, the 2nd instalment 'Build Around Me' certainly has it's moments, but a lack of cohesion between vocal & instrumental parts make this number feel like more of a b-side.
This double single might not reach the heights of the self-released 'Whatever It's Going To Be EP', but it's still strong enough to earn airplay on national radio and warrant the attention BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens (Huw has just recently invited the band to record a forthcoming Maida Vale session).
