Her Name Is Calla A Moment Of Clarity (Gizeh) Single Review
A Moment Of Clarity
Fresh from their recent tour supporting iLiKETRAiNS are Leicester four-piece Her Name Is Calla, and while there are certain similarities musically with their road buddies, HNIC simply extol a musical virtuosity that many of their peers probably didn't know existed.
Their first release since signing to Leeds-based Gizeh Records, 'A Moment Of Clarity' is one of those rare records that sounds more intense, thought provoking and ultimately BETTER with every subsequent listen. Not too dissimilar in sound from what the likes of Vessels or label mates Glissando have conjured up in the past, the complex nature of the song's instrumentation becomes all too clear by the final third, where vocalist Tom Morris let's go a piercing cry about "the sound of a human spirit breaking", pretty much instructing his bandmates to let go a crescendo of sound in protest.
The flipside 'Lincoln' may be a more tranquil affair by comparison but don't let that put you off. Her Name Is Calla are simply one of the brightest, most ambitious bands in the country at present and anyone who gets in the way of their bold quest to re-invent several musical wheels will find themselves crushed accordingly.
