Daddy Yankee

Introduces The Sound Of Summer 2005

"In Puerto Rica", says Daddy Yankee, the 28 year old Latin American superstar dubbed the king of reggaeton, "it's a compliment to be called Yankee. It's a euphemism for the biggest baddest dude in the neighbourhood. Combining it with Daddy takes the name to another level."

Born Raymond Ayala, Daddy Yankee was destined for a career in Major League Baseball but that all changed one summer night when he was shot in the leg leaving a recording studio at the age of 17.  He spent a year in a body cast and still walks with a 'pimp-limp' to this day as a result of the incident.

Now with 5 platinum albums in Latin America under his belt and already president of his own record label El Cartel, Daddy Yankee brings his addictive single Gasolina to the UK on 18 July and brings with it a new music phenomenon....reggaeton.  Born in the early nineties in Puerto Rico and now sweeping across Latino communities in the US (particularly NY & Miami), it's a fusion of reggae, Latin rhythms and hip hop.

Daddy Yankee has appeared on tracks with Nas, opened Usher's live show, guest starred in the Terror Squad video for 100% and is about to embark on his first acting role in the movie 'Straight From the Barrio', currently being shot in Puerto Rico.

The album Barrio Fino ( UK release date 4 July) was released in 2004 in the Latin world as the most hotly anticipated album in reggaeton history. Since then over a million albums have been sold in the US and last year Billboard created the first ever reggaeton award in Daddy Yankee's honour (Best Album). Now Gasolina has caught fire at radio in both the US and Europe and the phenomenon is going global, with a top 20 Billboard European Chart position and top 10 chart entries in six European territories to date including France and Germany.

Daddy Yankee hits the UK in July for a full promotional schedule around single release. Get ready for the sound of summer 2005...
