Corrigan- Sometimes I Think About (released 07.04.03)

Singer-songwriter Martin Corrigan's decision to name the band in a US sitcom style is the only lack of imagination displayed here. 'Sometimes I Think About' is an uplifting, but undeniably deranged, garage rock record that makes The White Stripes sound like Will Young. An unhinged vocal is supported by 'In Utero' style punk guitar alongside occasional flashes of REM melodicism.

The single is taken from Corrigan's debut album 'How To Hang Off A Rope' which is scheduled for release in May 2003. Supporting tracks are brand new songs, but hopefully they hint at what an eclectic album is in store. 'Face' has elements of Garbage, but only if Shirley Manson and the gang allowed their demons to completely run amok in the studio.

'It's In The Architecture Jackson' is influenced by the brilliant lo-fi nonsense of Sparklehorse. The off-kilter acoustics and spoken word vocal also owe a debt to Stephen Malkmus. Certainly not easy listening, but garage rock at its most subversive.
