Brendan Benson finally gets round to playing some shows of his own

After schlepping round the globe with the likes of Ben Kweller, Flaming Lips and, any day now, Beth Orton, Brendan Benson finally gets round to playing some shows of his own.

Brendan, favourite singer of none other than White Stripes frontman Jack White, will be bringing along his rag-tag backing band of merry men The Well Fed Boys to ably assist him.

Brendan releases a new single entitled Metarie on April 14th. This is a previously unheard reworking of the Lapalco album track, which was hailed by many as the album’s finest moment.

In other news, The White Stripes' cover of Brendan's 'Good To Me' features on the Japanese version of their new album 'Elephant'. The track will also be on the b-side of the next White Stripes single. 'Lapalco' was Jack White's favourite record of last year.

What the critics have said about Brendan Benson:

Inspiring, heart pummelling pop. Fantastic – Time Out

A virtual master-class in perfectly formed power pop – Q

Sublime. The best thing to happen to singer-songwriting since the acoustic guitar – NME

Lyrics to die for. All hail the new king of pop – Sunday Times

An album of such radiant beauty and wrist-slashing introspection that it puts all other pretenders to the Beatles/Beach Boys mantle firmly in their place – Sunday Times

That record’s fucking amazing – Dolf de Datsun (The Datsuns)

‘Lapalco’ is a masterpiece – NME
