Bird
Falling Like Stars/Christmas Song
(Ice Cream Records)

Slow and tuneful, yet crisp and commanding is what you get from the London based songstress Bird, who adopts a style that has helped the likes of Katie Melua and Astrid Williams gain recognition. This AA sided offering features the tender and philosophical 'Falling Like Stars', one of the highlight tracks from Bird's uplifting and instrumentally hypnotic debut album; 'Insides'. The topic of the frailty and mystery of human nature is covered with poignancy.

Bird - Falling Like Stars/Christmas Song (Ice Cream Records) - Single Review

The awkward and frustrating side of Christmas that niggles at you like a spoilt child is decorated by soft and alluring vocals, as well as tingling instrumentals by Bird et al in ‘Christmas Song’. It is a refreshing offering that provides some welcomed festive period realism;

“I can’t decide what to buy you for Christmas;

I don’t know why, but I don’t know what to buy.

It’s lucky that I got nothing for you but me on Christmas Day.”

This number is bnecesy no way an anti-Christmas song, but is merely a gentle and subtle swipe against some of the unsary and awkward aspects of it. You are advised to let Bird perch on your shoulder and sing into your ear, should you desire an honest and tender time this December's end.
