Directed by Ridley Scott

Halloween sees Ridley Scott's updated version of one of the scariest movies ever made premiere at cinemas across the country. ALIEN: THE DIRECTOR'S CUT is released on Friday 31st October including an exclusive digital presentation at the Odeon Leicester Square, where the film first terrified audiences in 1979.

Scott's sci-fi masterpiece, digitally re-mastered with additional scenes, is set to introduce a new generation of cinema goers to the big screen terror that first shocked audiences 24 years ago. "We're really doing this for the group of people who haven't seen it theatrically," comments Scott. "We digitally re-mastered it and got it back like it was yesterday. It's still scary. It's still a son of a bitch."

When the crew of the deep-space freight ship Nostromo are sent to investigate a mysterious distress signal, the discovery of a nest of pulsating eggs heralds the beginning of their terrifying fight for survival.

'Alien' was the second feature to be directed by acclaimed 3-time Oscar nominee Ridley Scott. Scott went on to direct numerous feature films including 'Blade Runner' 'Thelma & Louise', 'Hannibal', 'Gladiator' and 'Black Hawk Down'. The high impact thriller also launched the career of one of Hollywood's most successful talents Sigourney Weaver, portraying a character widely hailed as the big screen's first action heroines. Since making her feature debut at age 29, Weaver has appeared in all of the Alien franchise movies to date, receiving an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Ripley in 'Aliens'. She has also received great critical acclaim for her wide ranging roles in films including 'Gorillas in the Mist', 'The Ice Storm' and 'Heartbreakers'.

The film, which was originally shot at Shepperton Studios, also features a host of on-screen British talent including Oscar nominees John Hurt and Ian Holm. Acclaimed as much for its design as for its stunning vision and performances, 'Alien' showcases the work of Swiss artist
H R Giger, who conceptualised one of the most terrifying entities ever to be brought to the screen and whose work on the film was rewarded with the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

'Alien' inspired a host of sequels from some of the world's leading filmmakers, including James Cameron, David Fincher and Jean-Pierre Jeunet and The 'Alien' franchise, incorporating 'Alien', 'Aliens', 'Alien³' and 'Alien: Resurrection' is one of the most successful film franchises in the world with a value of over $950m . The 2004 release of the next instalment 'Alien Vs Predator', directed by Paul Anderson, will mark the franchise's 25th anniversary. British director Danny Boyle recently paid tribute to Scott's original film "It's an extraordinary piece of work that a lot of filmmakers are indebted to. It's an audience film, the audience made it into a star film. I hope the younger audience will get as much out of it as people did back then."
