LATEST: Rocker Ozzy Osbourne is to have a seven-inch (17.78 centimetre) metal plate inserted into the back of his neck, following his quad bike crash last Monday (08DEC03).

The 55-year-old singer will have the operation, to stabilise vertebrae he cracked in the accident, when doctors feel he's strong enough to undergo surgery.

His medical team want to carry out the procedure to make sure Ozzy doesn't suffer a permanent injury if he falls on his head again.

The former Black Sabbath frontman - who is being treated in WEXHAM PARK HOSPITAL, Slough, England - is making good progress after being taken off his ventilator yesterday (16DEC03).
