Orlando Bloom wasn't going to play Will Turner in 'Pirates of the Caribbean' until he found out Johnny Depp was going to be in the film.
The actor - who portrayed Will Turner in the first three movies of the swashbuckling Disney franchise - originally planned to turn down the role, but changed his mind when he learned his idol was to play Captain Jack Sparrow in the pirate adventure.
Speaking at an open lecture at New York's Rockefeller University, he said: "I always had actors to look up to, like Johnny.
"I got the offer for 'Pirates of the Caribbean' while I was shooting 'Ned Kelly' with Heath Ledger in Australia. I was like, 'I'm filming the coolest cowboy movie right now, why would I want to go be a pirate in a Disney flick?'
"And then they said, 'Okay, but Johnny Depp is doing it,' and I was like 'Sign me up! I'll be there as soon as I can.' "
Orlando recently revealed he will not be returning to star in the fourth movie in the franchise, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides'.
He said: "I'm definitely not returning. William Turner is sort of swimming around with the fish at the bottom of the ocean."
