Oprah Winfrey has donated nearly $250,000 (£166,667) to a cancer-stricken Australian family championed by actor Hugh Jackman.
The X-Men star recently recorded a personal video message on behalf of Sydney-based Kristian Anderson, who wanted to thank his wife Rachel and their two children for standing by him after his diagnosis with liver and bowel cancer.
The video came to the attention of Winfrey, and during a taping of her TV show in Sydney on Tuesday (14Dec10), she handed the family a cheque for $247,232 (£164,821) so they can "take the year off and get well".
She added, "The Andersons, I believe, represent any family dealing with a huge life challenge... We wanted them to spend every ounce of their energy being together and focusing on getting well."
