Tv titan Oprah Winfrey is set to feature sports star Michael Sam in a docu-series on her Tv network after he became the first openly gay athlete to be drafted into the National Football League (Nfl).
The 24-year-old 'came out' as gay in February (14) and last Saturday (10May14), he was chosen to play for the St. Louis Rams, making football history.
Now Winfrey is keen to tell his story on her OWN Network with the The Untitled Michael Sam Project, giving viewers an inside look into his journey to becoming the first openly gay player in the Nfl.
Sam hopes sharing his story on television will inspire others, saying in a statement, "Like every player out there working to make a team right now, my focus is on playing football to the very best of my ability. I am determined. And if seeing my story helps somebody else accept who they are and to go for their dreams too, that's great. I am thankful to Oprah for her support and excited to work together."
Winfrey has previously had success with reality shows on her network - Lindsay Lohan recently wrapped an eight-episode docu-series which followed the actress as she rebuilt her life after rehab.
