One Direction seem to have edged above Lady GaGa in the popularity stakes, in America. Or at least, they have if this year's MTV Video Music Awards are anything to go by. The former 'X Factor' contestants have been working hard touring the USA, trying to crack America's vast and influential music industry and it seems to have paid off. They've been nominated in the Best New Artist category, alongside The Wanted. As if that wasn't enough of an accolade, they have also been nominated for their video for 'What Makes You Beautiful.' Oh, and the pop poster boys will be performing at the ceremony, too. And Lady Gaga? Erm. nothing for her, apparently.
Mother Monster's fan-base is understandably livid at the news. Her omission from this year's ceremony has caused outrage. It's not surprising, given that she has won 13 VMA awards in total, and always makes an effort to put on a show. Let's not forget, for example, that dress made of meat that she wore to the ceremony in 2010, when she was trying to make a point about. Um, well we can't remember exactly what she was trying to make a point about but she wore a dress made of meat, so that's good enough for us. 10/10 for effort.
Riding high in the nominations are Rihanna and Drake, who both have five each. One of them is a joint nomination for Video of the Year, for their song 'Take Care.' Here's hoping Drake and Chris Brown aren't sat at the same table on the night.
