Just under a week before they drop their new album Made in the A.M., One Direction have released new single ‘History’, which serves as an emotional goodbye to their fans before their upcoming hiatus. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, band member Liam Payne described 'History' as a "modern version" of ‘You've Got a Friend in Me’.

"More than anything, the song is about the way the fans and everyone have created this massive thing—One Direction—over the past five years. Out of [‘History’] comes a little bit of closure for this chapter of One Direction.”

The song’s lyrics include lines such as, ‘You and me, we got a whole lot of history / We could be the greatest thing the world has ever seen’ and ‘So don't let it go / We can make some more / We can live forever.’

"It's really great because obviously that song is mainly about the fans and what they've done," Payne added. "I think it was important that they were a part of it, to close the album.” The band are due to take a hiatus after the album’s release, but have promised fans they will definitely be back.

‘History’ has already hit the top spot on the Trending 140 Chart in the US. It's sucesss continues a streak for the group which has seen all of Made in the AM’s singles top the chart for multiple hours. Made in the AM is set for release on November 13th and will probably top the album chart soon after.
