Fans of Debbie Harry were presumably up-in-arms this week at news One Direction have covered the classic Blondie track 'One Way or Another'. In fairness, the X-Factor boys had a stab at the track for Comic Relief and a statement on behalf of the band promises a "unique take". Sounds, er, interesting.
The single, produced by Julian Bunetta, will be released as a download on 17th February and a physical CD on 18th February. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day, the biannual fundraising event launched by the BBC in 1985. One Direction has a close association with the charity, visiting Africa earlier this year to witness first-hand the amazing work of Comic Relief. The group will forgo any royalties due to them (loads) and will not receive any payment in connection with the charity single. They've got plenty of money anyway, having sold over 15 million records globally and winning Brit Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Teen Choice Awards along the way. The One Direction coffers will swell considerably in 2013 following a sold out World Tour, which includes NINE shows at London's O2 Arena. A 3-D concert movie - set for release on August 23, 2013 - has been directed by acclaimed documentarian Morgan Spurlock.
One Direction will perform 'One Way or Another' for the time at the Brit Awards next month. Anyone wishing to hear the original version can catch Blondie on their summer UK tour, calling at Nottingham, Thetford, Belfast, Glasgow and others.
