Dermot O'Leary's Advice To Simon Cowell: 'Take The 'X-Factor' Off Air For A Year'

Dermot O'Leary Simon Cowell Olly Murs Caroline Flack

After suffering from low rating’s last year, most agree that it’s time the ‘X-Factor’ had a bit of a shake-up. But the talent competition’s former host Dermot O’Leary has gone further and said he thinks the best thing Simon Cowell could do is take the show off air for a whole year.

Dermot O'LearyDermot O’Leary thinks the ‘X-Factor’ could benefit from a year off.

“If I was Simon I’d take [The X Factor] off air for a year,” O’Leary told the Radio Times magazine. “I’d rest it.”

Olly Murs Dismisses Suggestion He Was Offended By Rita Ora's 'Snub'

Rita Ora Olly Murs The X Factor Caroline Flack

Though some have speculated that he was severely disheartened by Rita Ora’s apparent ‘snub’ during ‘The X Factor’ final at the weekend, Olly Murs has insisted that he wasn’t annoyed by the judge’s implication that he hadn’t made an “impression” on the charts.

After Louisa Johnson had scooped the grand prize on Sunday night’s live final (December 13th), Ora had proclaimed that only she and 2006 winner Leona Lewis had made any impact on the charts. While the audience applauded the obviously untrue statement (erm, One Direction?), 2009 runner-up Murs was said to have looked upset at the backhanded insult.

Rylan Clark has denied recent rumours that he and Emma Willis are due to replace Caroline Flack and Olly Murs as co-presenters of ‘The X Factor’ next year.

Reports emerged last Friday (December 11th), first reported by the Daily Star, indicated that Simon Cowell was in the mood to shake up the ITV show ahead of the 2016 edition. Murs, 31, and Flack, 36, have co-presented for just one series, after they replaced long-time host Dermot O’Leary earlier this year.

Olly Murs And Caroline Flack Share A Kiss At The Cosmopolitan Awards

Caroline Flack Olly Murs The X Factor

Olly Murs and Caroline Flack’s ‘are they / aren’t they’ relationship has been one of the biggest talking points of this year’s ‘x factor’, but now the pair have finally given audiences what they’ve wanted, as they shared a kiss in a photobooth at the Cosmopolitan Awards.

The pair have kept ‘X Factor’ viewers guessing about the true nature of their relationship for the last couple of months, after Olly split with his long-term girlfriend Francesca Thomas at the end of September.

However, the final shot of the photobooth reel as the pair celebrated Caroline’s Ultimate TV Personality win at the awards seemed to indicate that they might be more than just friends, as Caroline posted the photos on her Instagram page on Wednesday night (December 2nd).

Olly Murs Caroline Flack

Olly Murs has spoken about his recent ‘X-Factor’ gaffe which left the presenter facing the wrath of twitter, with some even calling for him to be fired from the show. Having apologised profusely for his hideous gaffe during last weekend’s episode of ‘The X Factor’, co-presenter Olly Murs has hit back against criticism of him, saying that the blunder has now been “massively blown out of proportion”.

On last Sunday’s episode (November 15th), Murs accidentally announced that contestant Monica Michael was going home before the actual result was announced that evening, leading to a huge backlash of criticism directed at him, with some speculating that he might even get fired, though he tweeted a quick apology for his “massive f*** up” via Twitter the same night.

UK Album And Singles Charts Topped By (Surprise!) Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus Eminem Chase and Status Olly Murs

Miley Cyrus, Miley Cyrus, Miley Cyrus – most people (non-Smilers, anyway) are probably tired of hearing the pop star’s name everywhere. However, there are some legitimate music-related news around the pop star this time. Namely, that both her new album, Bangerz, and her highly publicized single, Wrecking Ball, have entered the UK charts. Given Miley’s devoted international fandom, it isn’t too surprising that the singer managed to concur the charts across the Pond this week.

Miley Cyrus, Rockefeller Center
Miley really can't stop.

Not only did Cyrus register in the charts – she managed to become the first artist to simultaneously top the album and singles chart in 2013. Wrecking Ball beat out Eminem’s Berzerk to the top (possibly giving the rapper yet more material,) while Cyrus’ Bangerz album beat out Chase & Status with Brand New Machine, according to BBC News. The last act to achieve the chart double was Olly Murs, with his single Troublemaker and album Right Place, Right Time, last December. But then Murs is local, while Miley, despite her explosion in popularity over the past year, is American, making her success on British soil that much more impressive. But don’t for one moment think that Miley isn’t grateful.

Olly Murs Reveals He Would Take A Bullet For Simon Cowell, Not Just An Egg

Olly Murs Simon Cowell

In possibly the most stupid thing said by anyone ever, Olly Murs has said that he’d take a bullet for Simon Cowell. The singer was talking about Cowell’s egging nightmare.

“I was in Spain doing a gig and heard about this egg thing on Britain’s Got Talent. I would have taken an egg for Simon for sure. I would have taken a bullet.” Sorry what? You’d take a bullet for HIM? We know you have to suspend intellect – or never have had it – to sing the songs that Murs does, but come on. A bullet? He has to be joking. We’re sure he’s joking. Keen to get off the subject of taking bullets for Cowell – probably because he’s more likely to get shot than any other celebrity – Murs started talking about his Xtra Factor replacement, Matt Richardson. “It’s a massive job for an unknown. I was lucky as I came from The X Factor and people knew who I was,’ he explained. “I think for Matt, he’s fresh, he’s new and he can do anything he wants really. He can just be himself. It’s going to be completely different to me and Caroline – the chemistry we had and the flirtiness, but he seems like a really cool dude and I wish him all the best.”

“Caroline will look after him but I definitely need to speak to him and give him a few pointers on what Caroline is like,” Murs added to MTV News. Murs was the runner up in the 2009 series of X-Factor, and forged a strong relationship with Cowell and fellow popstar, Robbie Williams during his time on the show.

Emeli Sande To Add An Ivor Novello To Her BRIT Collection?

Emeli Sande Bat For Lashes Jake Bugg Olly Murs Coldplay Plan B Alt-J

Emeli Sande may be adding to her growing list of accolades as she is newly nominated for two different awards at the 58th Ivor Novello awards.

Her UK number 2 hit 'Next To Me' is nominated for Best Song Musically and Lyrically as well as the Most Performed Work award. Competing in the former category is 'Laura' by Bat For Lashes and 'Two Fingers' by Jake Bugg while the latter category also sees nominations from Olly Murs' 'Dance With Me Tonight' and Coldplay's Paradise. Sande has previously received two Urban Music Awards, three BRIT, three MOBO awards and an ECHO Music Award among several others and she's definitely up for a chance in the Ivor Novellos as her nominated track was apparently the third most listened to track of 2012 - a pretty impressive achievement in itself, though not as impressive as the reception her number one debut album 'Our Version of Events' received!

Other artists nominated in two separate categories are Plan B with 'Ill Manors', which is up for Best Contemporary Song and Best Original Film Score, and Alt-J with 'Fitzpleasure' for Best Contemporary Song and 'An Awesome Wave' for Best Album. The awards ceremony will make its way to the Grosvenor House hotel in London later this Spring on May 16th 2013.

It was fun and games at BBC Radio One DJ Fearne Cotton's house this morning (December 21, 2012) as the imminently expecting disc jockey invited a host of friends around for a live broadcast of her show. This week's been a tough one for Cotton, with it being revealed that her ex-boyfriend, Ian Watkins of the Welsh band Lostprophets, was arrested and remanded in custody on charges of a sexual nature; how great then that her celebrity pals rallied around her for this festive edition of her show.

Kate Bosworth has become the new face of Topshop with a glamorous video showing the star singing 'Winter Wonderland'.

The 'Superman Returns' actress was chosen by the Philip Green brand to don a glitzy, dark red gown and re-create the inspirational piano scene from 1989's 'The Fabulous Baker Boys' which starred Michelle Pfeiffer. "This project brings together two important aspects of my life: cinema and fashion", says the actress who was also a Calvin Klein Jeans model in 2008. "I have always been a fan of the Topshop brand and it has been an honour to work with Sir Phillip and the team. I hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we did making it." The clip was directed by Michael Polish of 'Twin Falls Idaho' and 'The Astronaut Farmer' fame.

The song looks to be in with a chance for the 2012 Christmas number one now being available on iTunes, but first it has to hit the UK Official Singles Chart. It will face competition from Olly Murs whose single 'Troublemaker' featuring Flo Rida is top for the second week in a row and from The Pogues with their much-loved 1987 Christmas hit 'Fairytale of New York' featuring Kirsty Maccoll.

Olly Murs: My Ideal Man Is George Clooney, Or David Beckham

Olly Murs David Beckham George Clooney

All you female Olly Murs fans, forget it, you're never getting your hands on the X Factor star. For all you male Olly Murs fans though, things are looking up! The 'Troublemaker' singer has named two of the world's biggest stars as his ideal men.

Ok, so he was asked who he'd go for if he was gay - which he's not - but we don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. Speaking to the Daily Star, Murs explained, "My ideal man, if I were gay, would be David Beckham or George Clooney. Both are successful, good-looking and talented." Nice choices Olly! But just to make it very, very, clear that he's definitely not gay, the singer added, "I have never kissed a bloke. Not seriously anyway." Despite hammering home the fact that he's straight, Murs remains single and claims he is yet to find 'the one.' "I went on a couple of dates with a girl. That went really well. But I'm still single. It's just that time of year when I'm so busy with work," he said.

After scoring a UK No.1 single with Troublemaker, Murs could be on-course to do the chart double with his third studio album Right Place Right Time. Surely there must be a girl out there who's interested in the successful singer? Failing that, Clooney and Beckham might be persuaded.

Olly Murs Signs A Fans Breast, Looks For A Girlfriend

Olly Murs Robbie Williams

Living up to his reputation as a cheeky chappy, Olly Murs has employed the age old tactic of signing a young fans breast. We're not sure why people insist on getting parts of their body signed. You wash, right?

Anway, all this boob-signing begs the question; why hasn't Murs got a girlfriend yet? Do people find him just too annoying to be with for more than 5 minutes? "I went on a couple of dates with a girl that went really well. But I'm still single as it's just that time of year when I'm really busy," is his excuse, as he explains his single status to The Sun. "We'll see what happens over Christmas. It's hard -- but I'm just really busy through work." Olly's relationship with Caroline Flack was considered by some to be romantic, but he dismissed that, saying that the pair were just friends. "We've never had any connection like that," he said, adding: "We're just really good mates. She's a lovely girl to be around and she's just brilliant. The only thing I worried about was that it was going to affect our relationship on camera."

Despite being unattached, Olly's doing well for himself. He nabbed the U.K number 1 this week with Troublemaker, and he's off to support Robbie Williams on a European stadium tour in 2013.

Robbie Williams' Renaissance, European Tour 2013

Robbie Williams Olly Murs

Robbie Williams' career ten years ago was almost unbeatable in the UK. He'd signed a record breaking contract with EMI for £80m and almost all his albums went double platinum. Now, after a slump from 2006 until 2011, Williams has returned with a number one single 'Candy' and another number one album Take the Crown, his tenth chart topping album.

This time around though his success isn't simply his own, with a wife and baby in tow, he's more than happy to share his winnings. And it's not just his family that are benefiting, 8 lucky fans received free tickets to next year's European tour. According to Gigwise, he left his Skype ID on his website and called 8 of the fans that added him.

His first tour in six years will see him traverse Europe including three dates in the UK, in London, Glasgow and Manchester. And he'll be supported by Olly Murs. They struck up a friendship when Robbie helped Olly out while the young singer was still competing in the X Factor.

Move Over Olly Murs! James Arthur Has Eyes For Caroline Flack

Olly Murs Caroline Flack James Arthur The X Factor

Olly Murs may have scored a No.1 single this week - beating Girls Aloud to the top spot - though it seems it may not be enough to bag his Xtra Factor co-star Caroline Flack, who he's reportedly had his eyes on for months. James Arthur, a semi-finalist on this year's x factor competition, had admitted having a soft-spot for the ITV2 presenter.

He told New Magazine, "I think she's attractive, she's funny," adding, "I'd definitely take her out for a drink." However, James insisted that nothing would happen between the pair while he's still competing on the show. He explained, "I've got her number. If we do text each other it's a friendship thing..She's really nice, she is professional and she really wouldn't cross any mark in terms of speaking to any contestants differently to anyone else." Flack has a history of dating contestants on the show, having begun a relationship with One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles before facing a ferocious backlash from fans of the band. Flack was mobbed by the paparazzi for weeks before making a plea for One Direction Twitter fans to stop sending her death threats.

We're not sure whether James Arthur's online fan-base is as hard-core as the 1D followers, though we're pretty sure Caroline Flack would be the envy of even more teenage girls. Oh oh.

Robbie Williams Shows More Love To One Direction; Could They Be As Big As The Spice Girls?

Robbie Williams One Direction Spice Girls Olly Murs

It's all Robbie Williams; as well as announcing his European stadium tour, with his pop lacky Ollie Murs picking up the support slack, he's further endorsed teen-icons One Direction, saying they could be as big as British giants, The Spice Girls, The Metro reports.

"You know, they're quite a power together, very much in the same way the Spice Girls were. The Spice Girls went and took on the world and won and I think the 1D boys have got a similar sort of chemistry," said Williams at The Soho Hotel, London while announcing his tour. "They're all good- looking lads, they're all great singers, and as a five they're a great power." Perhaps Robbie's indulging in youth, viewing 1D as a kind of modern Take That, as he was a young lad when he made it. So how is old(er) age treating the Angels singer as he hits 40? "I'm buzzing (for this tour)," he explains, "it's time to put my foot down and go 'This is what I do'. Pop stars cease to be pop stars at 40 and start being old people singing, don't they? I want to go and seal my place in pop history."

And talking about his recent night out with ladies' man Harry Styles, Robbie said:  'I don't think Harry needs any tips from me about women. He's a magnet like I've never seen before. I wasn't him when I was 18, that didn't happen to me. He's been tarred with the lucky stick hasn't he? He seems to be having a whale of a time.'

Robbie Williams To Be Joined By Olly Murs And… His Daughter?

Robbie Williams Olly Murs

The Robbie Williams renaissance is in full flow. The latest news to come out of the former Take That star’s camp is that he, supported by Olly Murs, is to embark on a European stadium Tour. Perhaps some unexpected news, though, is that he’ll also be joined by his daughter.

"Perhaps I will be a bit more calm,” he said in his press conference, according to Entertainmentwise. “She's a very, very calming presence. Already I feel that something cosmically has changed within me and I don't know what it is but I feel happier as a person and a bit more grounded as a person. That's happened naturally," he added. "She's coming with us, of course. It probably means I'll get more sleep because she's there, not less because she's there. She's rounding off my rough edges as the weeks progress in her life so far." Talking about his recent resurgence, straight back into the world of pop after a lengthy and sometimes controversial break, Robbie said, "I don't know how many times I will get given this opportunity... I want to go and seal my place in pop history."

Olly Murs will support Robbie on tour. The pair have been friends ever since Williams came onto 2009’s X-Factor to help Murs out with a few parts of his performance.

Big Week For Olly Murs Includes UK Number 1, Simon Cowell Endorsement And Robbie Williams Tour

Olly Murs Robbie Williams Simon Cowell

Could this be the best week in Olly Murs' career? He's managed to keep Girls Aloud off the top spot with their comeback single, Something New, which in all truth is nothing new, and in doing so, reached the #1 spot.

And that's not all; the cheeky popstar received a warm message of congratulations from Simon Cowell, who, ignoring the inner workings of Twitter by not @ing Murs, knew his message would get through anyway. "Hi Olly Murs," he tweeted. "Congratulations on your number one single today. You are a true star and a great guy. Proof success doesn't change you." Cowell was Olly's mentor back in 2009 when he was on The X-Factor, and what's more, he signed the Essex lad, so receives a cut of whatever he makes. Oh hang on a minute, maybe a tweet to his 5m followers had something to do with that... He did the same for One Direction when they reached Number 1 last week, telling them, "Massive congrats to the one d boys for having the number one single and album in the uk. Could not be happier for you."

Anyway, that's not where Murs' magical week stops, with Robbie Williams announcing that he will join him for his upcoming European stadium tour.

"It's Legacy Time": Robbie Williams On Tour

Robbie Williams Olly Murs

Robbie Williams has released the news of a European arena tour for 2013, with three dates in the UK before moving onto mainland Europe. He'll be bringing Olly Murs along with him for support, reports the Independent.

Robbie Williams last couple of albums have been pretty terrible. However, with his marriage, the birth of his daughter and the reunion of Take That, everything has taken a U-Turn in Robbie's life and his latest single 'Candy' shot to the top spot in the UK, as did the album Take the Crown. It's fitting, therefore, for him to embark on a tour of enormous magnitude to reflect and enhance the success he has already found this year.

"I'm buzzing. I'm ready to go. I haven't done a tour of this size since 2006. I believe that I'm at the place in my career where it's time to put my foot down and go 'This is what I do'. It's legacy time for me." He said, "I'm nearly 40, that's what I'm trying to say. I don't know how many times I will get given this opportunity... I want to go and seal my place in pop history... I've got a couple more (tours) left. I just want to put my stamp down... Say remember me."

Olly Murs, Olly Murs Album Review

Almost a year since finishing runner up in the sixth UK series of X Factor in 2009, Essex born soul man Olly Murs has finally collated a selection of damn infectious, laid back, funky reggae pop songs on his co-written eponymous debut album. Despite the determination of X Factor judge, mentor and big music industry executive Simon Cowell to only work with the winner of X Factor, Cowell couldn't let go of mentee Olly Murs, which has resulted in this album release.

Opening with funky, foot-tapping number 'Change Is Gonna Come', Murs immediately proves himself as a Will Young-Daniel Merriweather crossbreed with his soulful vocals sounding clearly through an upbeat feel good pop song with strong brass-backed chorus. A similar vibe resonates throughout the entirety of the album as is exemplified in both his recent number one single, 'Please Don't Let Me Go', a laidback yet catchy number with a funky reggae feel, and similarly in Murs' current single release, 'Thinking Of Me'. 'Thinking Of Me' has a ska/reggae groove reminiscent of The Specials with a strong brass and piano offbeat over which Murs' comfortable vocals sing clear; it's a musical vibe that's later echoed in 'Hold On' with offbeat clapping, funky, chilled reggae groove and call and response chorus vocals.
