The first season of Scream Queens will consist of 15 hour long episodes. Although details are hazy, the storyline will centre on a series of murders on a college campus.

Scream Queens will see Murphy reunited with a number of his favourite actors including Glee star Lea Michele and Roberts, who has starred in two series of American Horror Story. Other cast members include Jamie Lee Curtis, Abigail Breslin and Ariana Grande. Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, has recently been cast in the series. American Horror Story and Glee co-creator and producer Brad Falchuk and Glee producer Ian Brennan will also be collaborating with Murphy on Scream Queens.

True Blood's Joe Manganiello was initially cast in the series but he has since been forced to drop out of the series because of conflicts with the upcoming publicity tour for Magic Mike XL. He has been replaced by Oliver Hudson. Hudson, the son of actors Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, currently stars in Nashville. His role in Scream Queens will reportedly not interfere with filming for Nashville, according to People
