Hit cop show NYPD Blue is heading for TV retirement - network bosses at ABC will cancel the show next year (05).

The long-running TV hit, starring DENNIS FRANTZ, has been renewed for one final season.

ABC will replace the show with a new police drama from NYPD Blue producer Steven Bochco.

Since its arrival on American TV 11 years ago (93), the show has featured regulars including David Caruso and Jimmy Smits.

The show set an EMMY record in 1994 by claiming the most nominations of any first-year series, with 26 bids.
