Noel Gallagher has quit Oasis after a dramatic pre-concert fight with his bandmate brother LIAM.
Just days after they axed a performance at the V Festival in Chelmsford, England, the band walked away from the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, France, on Friday (28Aug09), minutes before they were due onstage.
Disappointed fans were told on giant screens that "an altercation within the band" was to blame, and singer Amy MCDonald has confirmed there was a bust up, posting an account of the brothers' tussle on her Twitter.com page.
She wrote, "Cancelled again with one minute to stage time!!! Liam smashed Noel's guitar, huuuge fight!"
Noel then took to the band's official website where he posted a statement, tendering his resignation from the group he founded with Liam 18 years ago.
It reads, "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.
"People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.
"Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan."
The split comes just days before the band was due to complete its world tour, which has been riddled with reports of battles between the brothers.
Earlier this week (begs24Aug09) they were forced to release a statement denying split rumours. It read, "Oasis will complete the rest of the world tour in Europe and then take some well-earned time off before they begin to think about the next album and tour."
