Fisherman's Friends Movie In The Works

Calendar Girls Nigel Cole

The story of British sea shanty group Fisherman's Friends is to be brought to the big screen by Calendar Girls director Nigel Cole.

The singers landed a major recording deal in 2010 after they were discovered at a pub in England, and they are poised to release their second album next month (Aug13).

However, their story took a tragic twist when bandmember Trevor Grills and tour manager Paul MCMullen were killed in a freak accident involving a steel door at a gig venue in February (13).

Blethyn 'Arrested' On Film Set

Brenda Blethyn Little Voice Saving Grace Nigel Cole

British actress Brenda Blethyn was threatened with arrest after mistaking a passer-by for a film extra and offering to sell cannabis.
The Little Voice star was filming 2000 movie Saving Grace on the streets of west London, in which she played a women forced into drug dealing to avoid financial ruin.
One scene required her to approach 40 extras with her wares, but Blethyn found it hard to distinguish actors from real shoppers on the busy streets of the British capital.
She recalls, "How do you recognise 40 strangers milling around another 500? I went up to people saying, 'Take me to your dealer.' I scored twice!
"Then someone tried to do a citizen's arrest on me. The director Nigel Cole came running out and said, 'No, she's making a film.'
"The person said, 'I don't care what she's doing.' He was very upset."

Hollywood hunk Ashton Kutcher is delighted his A LOT LIKE LOVE director Nigel Cole has hailed the PUNK'D host as a modern-day Cary Grant.

Kutcher is eager to shake off his loud Punk'd persona and goofy THAT '70S SHOW character MICHAEL KELSO and be taken seriously as an actor.

He tells British movie magazine EMPIRE, "I can't thank Nigel enough for saying that.

Calendar Girls Nigel Cole Judi Dench Maggie Smith Julie Walters

Calendar Girls movie maker Nigel Cole is already planning his next picture, he wants to turn British acting dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith into middle-aged prostitutes.

The British director's first two feature films have both focused on older characters behaving badly - in SAVING GRACE BRENDA BLETHYN grows marijuana and in new movie Calendar Girls Julie Walters and HELEN MIRREN strip off for a nude calendar.

Now he is eyeing an even more controversial third film.

LATEST: The sequel to smash hit Bridget Jones's Diary has hit yet another stumbling block - this time over who will direct it.

According to reports in the British press, superstar lead Renee Zellweger wants to replace producer's favourite Beeban Kidron with Calendar Girls filmmaker Nigel Cole.

Renee, who will reportedly bag $16 million (GBP10.1 million) plus ten per cent of profits for reprising the role in THE EDGE OF REASON - is pressing producers to drop Kidron for Cole.
