Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger has found her perfect West End role, as Grizabella in a revival of the iconic musical ‘Cats’. The singer will be playing the feisty feline when the show returns to the London Palladium later this year for a limited run beginning on December 6th.

As the announcement was made by Andrew Lloyd Webber on Sunday Night at the Palladium, the US born singer said, “to have the opportunity to work with Andrew, Trevor and Gillian is a dream come true.” Adding, “I grew up listening to Andrew’s extraordinary music and was lucky enough, a couple of years ago, to record Cats’ beautiful song ‘Memory’.”

Scherzinger went on to describe Lloyd Webber’s score as “breathtaking”, before gushing, “I am truly honoured to have been asked to take part in what I know will be a very special time in my career. I can’t wait to begin rehearsals.”

Andrew Lloyd Webber also shared Scherzinger’s enthusiasm when he tweeted, “Thrilled @NicoleScherzy will be our Grizabella when @CatsMusical pounces back into London in December! ALW.”

Based on TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the musical first opened at the New London Theatre in 1981, where it played for 21 years. Directed by Trevor Nunn and choreographed by Gillian Lynne, 'Cats' has won numerous awards, including Best Musical at both the Oliviers and the Tonys. In 1982 it opened on Broadway, where it ran for 18 years becoming the second longest-running show in Broadway history after 'The Phantom of the Opera'.
