Nicki Minaj performed her latest single ‘Freedom’ on Ellen Degeneres’ chat show this week.

The American Idol judge has been making a big deal about the importance of getting rich, recently. Not about everyone getting rich, of course. Just her. Sadly, ‘Freedom’ probably isn’t the song that’s going to do it for her. Actually, we suspect that Nicki’s already pretty rich, by most people’s standards. But this won’t be the song that helps her buy the moon, or whatever it is she wants to get richer for, exactly.

Gone was the bright pink wig and the extravagant make-up. Gone were the racy outfits. Whether or not Nicki was toning it down for Ellen’s audience, or whether she wanted a look more suited to the laidback nature of the song is unclear, but Nicki opted for a sleek, curve-hugging red dress, plain blond wig and a bit of bling. ‘Freedom’ is the latest track to be released from her epic (as in lengthy) album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, which hit stores last year.

There was a glimpse of Nicki’s usual unpredictable self, though, when Ellen chatted to the rapper, asking her about the reported feud between her and fellow Idol judge Mariah Carey. “I just kind of overcompensated by being crazier,” she explained, though not going into the fact that ‘overcompensating’ allegedly means ‘threatening to shoot someone.’ She continued: “If you know somebody maybe doesn't like you, now you're going to really go in... it's like a defense mechanism, it's really that your feelings are hurt, and you can't believe, so you just compensate by being crazy.”
